Phillip Matthews

director of communications, Theatre Communications Group and manager, Free Night of Theater

Phillip Matthews, came to Theatre Communications Group (TCG) as director of communications in June 2005 with extensive experience in public relations, marketing, development and special events. Mr. Matthews also manages Free Night of Theater, TCG’s exciting national audience development program that successfully debuted as a three-city pilot in the fall of 2005 and will be presented by more than 700 theatres, in over 80 cities (including new partners Chicago, Minneapolis and New York City) from coast to coast in 2008. He served as director of marketing for New York City’s Off-Broadway Circle Repertory Company, and as marketing manager for the Tony Award-winning Broadway productions of Angels in America, Part One: Millennium Approaches and Part Two: Perestroika. He has over 15 years of not-for-profit senior management experience, primarily as executive director with such organizations as People with AIDS Coalition of New York, Test Positive Aware Network in Chicago, Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival and In the Life Media in New York. Mr. Matthews graduated from the State University of New York College at Fredonia with a bachelor of science in communications.
