Lisa Kennedy has been the Denver Post's film critic since May 2003.Before joining the paper, she lived in Phoenix, AZ. There she freelanced for Wired, the Sunday magazine of the London Times, TV Guide, and the Phoenix New Times where she was briefly art critic. She also wrote a weekly media/culture column for Niaonline.com, a web-based community for African American women. Before making the leap to writing, she lived in New York City. She did stints as Editor at Large at Out Magazine and Managing Editor for "Us." She began her career at The Village Voice as a copy editor and left nine years later as Features Editor, after being Art editor and editor of the Voice's well-regarded film section. During her time at the Post, her reviews and cultural coverage have been placed in the Society of Professional Journalist Colorado Chapter's Excellence in Journalism Awards. Last year she was a finalist of the Freedom Forum/ASNE Award for Diversity Writing. Her articles have appeared in a number of anthologies, including: "Rock She Wrote," "The Rolling Stone Book of Women in Rock," and "Black Popular Culture." She was an Obie judge in 1995.
